HEALTH & SAFETY REGULATIONS AND RISK ASSESSMENT

TUITION YARD - HELPERS


CHILDREN UNDER 9

  1. No child under 9 years may remain on the yard to help.

CHILDREN 9-11

  1. Children 9-11 years may remain on the yard to help providing they have been assessed by one of our qualified instructors on all aspects of horse care.
  2. They also must have a parent/guardian with them at all times.

CHILDREN 11+

  1. All helpers must be regular tuition clients and are expected to behave in a responsible manner.  (See Helper Code Of Conduct).
  2. All helpers are under supervision of the  yard manager/instructor working on that day and must follow their guidelines in regards to safety at all times.
  3. All helpers are reminded that they must:

  • Wear a current standard hat at all times when around ponies.
  • Wear sensible clothing and protective footwear if possible.
  • Never catch ponies unless wearing a current standard hat and accompanied by a member of staff or there are at least 2 helpers together.
  • Be signed on and off the premises by the member of staff responsible for them that day and must have a letter of authorisation from their parent/guardian allowing them to help on this yard.
  • The American Barn is out of bounds unless asked to go down by a member of staff.
  • When leaving yard to catch ponies etc ALWAYS wear hi-viz clothing and take a phone is possible.

Do you have a hat that conforms to the current standard?

  • Do you have wellies, yard or jodhpur boots?
  • Do you have gloves?
  • Do you have your Pony Club:

  1. Mucking Out Achievement Badge
  2. Handling & Grooming Achievement Badge
  3. Tack Cleaning Achievement Badge
  4. Tacking Up Certificate

(If not Speak to Eve, Claire or Sarah).

  • Are you confident around horses?
  • Are you willing to learn and Help?
  • Are you willing to work hard?

HELPER VOUCHER REWARDS

  1. A helper voucher needs to be filled out with what you have done in the day and the duration of the session (this does not include any time spent in a lesson or with your own pony/horse).
  2. This helper voucher needs to be taken to Eve, Claire or Sarah and only they will sign off and allocate a full or 1/2 voucher.
  3. Collect 4 vouchers and they will be exchanged for a 1/2 hour private lesson, 6 for a 3/4 hour private lesson and any helper events will be specified at a later date as to how many vouchers are required.
  4. Vouchers need to be given in as payment for the lesson or event upon booking.
